We could be unlocking Gears of War: E-Day achievements next year, which is fantastic news for those of us looking forward to the prequel game. New Gears of War: E-Day release date rumors suggest The Coalition is gearing up for a 2025 Xbox and PC launch — it could roll out before the Xbox exclusive, Fable.

Gears of War: E-Day rumors suggest 2025 launch

As reported in The Verge's Tom Warren in the latest Notepad newsletter, Gears of War: E-Day is reportedly "targeting a release in 2025 — ahead of even Fable." Playground Games's latest trailer for Fable only gave us a release window of 2025, and Warren says that "Microsoft is currently targeting Fable to release between October and December 2025."

Returning to the E-Day release, Warren says it "may have changed by now, so the lack of a release window gives The Coalition some breathing room. Either way, I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to see how Gears can really push the Xbox Series X|S consoles." While we're yet to see gameplay for this entry into the series, we were treated to an in-engine reveal trailer during the Xbox Game Showcase, which used the game's Unreal Engine 5 assets, models, environments, and ray-tracing.

Gears of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears of War game, putting us in the rather large shoes of a younger Marcus Fenix on Emergence Day. Alongside his brother-in-arms, Dom Santiago, we'll get to experience the pair's origin story, and it sounds like they could be a little different than the Marcus and Dom we grew to love in the original trilogy.

"We’re telling the origin story of Marcus and Dom and their bond… this is the bond that defines the franchise," an Xbox Wire post says. "They’re not the characters we know from Gears 1 to 3. They don’t have 10 years of fighting the Locust between them. When the game opens, there’s supposed to be peace on Sera, and they’re trying to figure out life without this person they both loved."
