Last year, Microsoft partnered with Meta to launch Xbox Cloud Gaming on the Meta Quest, offering players a mixed reality experience to play some of the best Xbox Game Pass games on a large 2D virtual screen. Now Meta has announced that it'll be releasing a limited edition Meta Quest inspired by Xbox.

While it might not be the step into VR some players might be hoping for from Team Green, Meta has announced that it is working with Microsoft to create a new limited edition Meta Quest inspired by Xbox. Xbox Cloud Gaming is already available on the Meta Quest, and while the announcement doesn't tell us exactly what this new device will do, the concept image shows that it could rock a black and green color scheme instead of the all-white appearance of the Meta Quest 3. It's possible this new device will be sold along with an official Xbox controller so you can jump into Xbox Cloud Gaming out of the box instead of offering any new Xbox functionality, but we'd love to be wrong.

The news comes as part of a wider announcement from Meta, which is opening its Horizon operating system for third-party use and partnering with the likes of Asus ROG, Lenovo, and Xbox. Alongside the limited edition Xbox headset, Asus is working on a performance gaming Meta Quest, while Lenovo is drawing on its experience co-developing the Oculus Rift S to create "mixed reality devices for productivity, learning, and entertainment."

Developers and tech companies are now able to use Meta's custom frameworks and tools to create brand-new mixed-reality experiences, which can then be sold on the Meta Horizon Store (formerly the Meta Quest Store). Meta plans to lower its barrier of entry for both the store and its App Lab, so as long as a developer meets some basic technical and content requirements, they'll be able to "quickly" ship their software on the platform.

We'll let you know when more information appears for this interesting new Xbox Meta Quest, and hopefully, when we'll be able to play some of the upcoming Game Pass games on it!
