This is the first time I have ever written a review for a game on this site so obviously this one spoke to me.

It is a game with few flaws but the flaws it does have I can see turning people away.

If you like games like Vampire Survivors you will love this, while there is no tutorial that I am aware of it plays very similarly. Each level (difficulty) consists of 20 waves. waves 1-10 are between 30 and 50 seconds, 11-20 are between 50-80 seconds. With the 80 seconds being for the final boss. During each wave you will be battling enemy after enemy who drop material which is used both as your money resource as well as your Xp to level up. At the end of the level you will be able to us your XP points to improve your stats as well as buy new items and weapons for your upcoming wave. The items will normally benefit one or two stats while decreasing a few others. This gives you the option to play the game in your preferred style. Do you want to hack and slash? Run and Gun? Or raise your dodge and speed and avoid all enemies until the time runs out.

There is also a ton of characters who each offer a different style of play, my favorite is a character who can't hold any weapons, but will explode when he hits an enemy killing them and lowering your health. Tying that with items and stats to boost health regeneration and you have an invincible bomb who gains back all of the health they lose when exploding instantly.

At the beginning of the review a mentioned there was a few flaws. There are 2 that I can think of and one is minor but both can deter players from playing or trying to complete the game.

The first and minor one and the one that in theory shouldn't effect people greatly is the odd achievement scores. There is a number of achievements that are worth 1, 2, 3 or 4. Thankfully it is pretty easy to get all of those odd achievements after a few play throughs.

The biggest flaw is for anyone that wants to complete it. There is an achievement for beating a level with each individual character. There is 40 + characters and with each level assuming you don't die is atleast 22 minutes long. Its a really long grind that honestly can get extremely boring as the characters while offering a different way to play end up bleeding into eachother. While I haven't completed the game 100% I still have 19 characters left to win with (at the time of this writing), I normally just watch tv while mindlessly moving my character around.

All and all it's a wonderful game that can become quite the grind fest.

thomaskoratIt's a snack game, casual. Vampire survivors is harder since one has difficulty sliders in Brotato.
Decent amount of decisions, are you doing currently a "armor and regen" build or a "maximum damage" build or a "fire spreads and I have 50% dodging stat"...

TheBigBBNot to argue semantics, but I don't feel grind is the right word here. You only need to beat the game with each character one time, and each difficulty level one time. You are not grinding anything out, you are just triyng to win. Each character plays differently, so that seems fine. To me, grind would be like if you were farming a million kills or something.

A POTATO? CHECK, A MURDERING SPREE? CHECK A REPLAYABLE FUN GRIND? CHECK

Writing this with around 40 mins on the game but I am beyond hooked to the game, now I was sceptical about starting this game with the weird Gamerscore numbers butttttt god damn it is a blast quite literally.

Update: After playing for 17 hours and getting the 100% I honestly cant think of any negatives for this game, after playing other rogue-likes such as Vampire survivors, Risk of rain 2 and Hades being instantly hooked onto those i had some expectations for this game. Coming too it a potato with weapons fighting aliens was a good pull to see what the game was like and my oh my did it reach those expectation giving me the replayability I wanted allowing me to make the game my own with many builds, classes and accessibility options to choose from.

    Accessibility:
This game accessibility is awesome being able to change sounds or the opacity of explosion and projectile to avoid clutter on your screen or to make the game how you want it by changing enemy Speed, Health and damage, If you want more of a casual experience and/or aren't too keen on Rogue-like game you can crank the setting to 25% to ease yourself into the game and genre making enemies weaker, slower and easier to kill.

Or maybe your a pro at Rogue-like games and want a real challenge then cranking it up to max having enemies Moving at 150% speed or having 150% Health or damage.

Changing those 3 options really allows player of all types to enjoy this game at their own pace or to create challenges like having weak enemies moving 50% fasters (personally my fav) it literally has something for everyone.

Quitting a run mid way through is something I hate doing in other games after all that progress you made or the time you wasted on "The Run", In Brotato if you need to leave just do it, the game will be waiting right where you left off honestly this alone deserve a thumbs up as i haven't seen any other Rogue-like game do this allowing for even the busiest people to be able to play a game and continue their run if they are interrupted or need to take care of something.

    Classes:
On the note of something for everyone this game has 44 yes 44 different classes or Characters to choose from allowing something for every playstyle

Mage - You like fire and DoT? This class is for you setting enemies alight and spreading it like wildfire makes this class a status king and a crowd control machine.

Multitasker - GUNS, GUNS, GUNS - This class can hold 12 of the same or different weapons instead of the usual 6, allowing him to become a bullet king and hose down aliens left right and centre.

Pacifist - Don't like fighting? Love being a walking tank? This class is for you, dealing very very little damage but can build up a tanky build to stand and afk all you want watching your health bar drop and refill instantly with upgrades, the pacifist isn't for all but it surprised me with how fun they are.

Arms Dealer - Old school gun game, Whats not to love? Every round you discard you weapons and select new ones a good old roulette.

Artificer - EXPLOSIONS, Become Mr Torgue and rain explosions at enemies screen wiping them consistently

    Engineer - AFK and Turrets

Fisherman - I literally hit over 8k damage with a gun starting at 3 damage, The build up over time wave after wave buying baits slowly increasing damage and seeing them big numbers at the end is everything

Demons - High Risk High Reward, Trade your own health for items in the shop and become a literal demon unkillable and lots of numbers.

Those are a brief run down of my favourite classes but honestly their is something for everyone in this game so give them all a test drive and you might surprise yourself.

    Overview:
This game was a great addition on game pass and to be able to play it at release (on Xbox) it gave me all the things a game should and this will definitely be put on my higher tier of games and one of my recommendations for anyone getting into the Rogue-Like Genre, i see myself coming back to this game over many years as it has no bad views from me.

    What do you think?
    Have you tried it yet?
Why not give it a go?

Brotato is a roguelike and a bullet hell where you have 40 or something different brotatos to choose as your character. It's a fun game, I admit, and I kind of like the soundtrack, but can be repetitive since it's the same music for every run you do.

It consists of 20 waves, ranging from 20 to 50 seconds, and the last wave (wave 20) being 80 seconds long as it is the boss fight. You have to kill the enemies, collect materials which are green ores I'd like to call which can be used to buy weapons and passive weapons (items), which will help you evolve and get stronger throughout the run.

+ It has a lot of different weapons and passive weapons (items) you can choose for, ranging from guns to sticks and medieval stuff.. You can only have 6 weapons at once but you can have as much passive weapons as you can. In one run with Fisherman I got 152 baits which got me around 1,200 points on damage, lol.
+ It has a lot of different characters (Brotatos) to choose for. One of them spawns a lot of trees, another you don't have weapons so you have to run over the enemies to kill them, and etc.
+ I absolutely love the accessibility settings as an way to make the game easier and welcoming for everyone. It can be boring for those who are looking to 100% all achievements, but you could always set the difficulty higher if you want a challenge.
    - One thing I dislike about this is the play area. It's so small and uninteresting, and also can be repetitive. They could've done something like Vampire Survivors or Army of Ruin maps, where you could actually explore the maps while you're fighting the enemies, and can make the completion of those less boring.
    - There are like what... 10 different types of mobs? And they are all the same color? Why couldn't we have different mobs of different types/races. In vampire survivors, for example, they have like 200 or so different mobs. Sure, the game's been out for 1 and a half year but still. They could've introduced more mobs and make them have colors other than just purple.
