Vote now for May 2024's TA Playlist game The last few years have given us some pretty good TV adaptations of popular video games. Which one will you choose for May 2024's TA Playlist? The TA Playlist Team Published 18 Apr 2024 FollowtopicsTA PlaylistCommunity eventThe TA Playlist Team We hope you’re having fun exploring mysterious alien worlds in the April TA Playlist game, Cocoon, but now it’s time to come back to Earth and vote for next month’s TA Playlist Game of the Month! For as long as there have been video games, there have been movies and TV shows based on video games, going all the way back to 1982’s Pac-Man cartoon. While not all adaptations have been successful (see the collected works of Uwe Boll, for instance), recent years have seen much better productions, especially in the realm of TV series. With the current buzz surrounding Amazon Prime’s Fallout series and its mostly positive reviews, we decided to offer up four games with recent TV adaptations for the May 2024 TA Playlist poll. The nominees are: Fallout 3As the inspiration for the theme, we’ll start with the Fallout franchise, represented in the poll by Fallout 3, the 2008 RPG from developer Bethesda Game Studios. Fallout 3 was a smash hit for Bethesda, which acquired the rights to the Fallout IP from Interplay Productions in 2007. While the current Fallout TV Series on Amazon Prime isn’t a direct adaptation of any single title in the Fallout series, it has received critical praise for being faithful to the tone and style of the game franchise overall. Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas have both been featured in previous TA Playlists in June 2021 and July 2018, respectively.Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec®, America’s First Choice in Post-Nuclear Simulation™.Fallout 3 has an impressive TA user rating of 4.5/5 and has been played by over 444,000 tracked gamers. Around 9% (just over 39,000 TA users) have gone on to unlock all 72 achievements, including 50 from the base game and the rest from 5 DLC packs, with a total estimated completion time of 75-100 hours. The Fallout 3 Walkthrough from BormahTiid is available to guide you through the Capital Wasteland and make sure you pick up the game’s 19 missable achievements. If Fallout wins, the GFWL version will also count for participation, though that version has been removed from the Microsoft Store. The Witcher 2: Assassins of KingsNext up on the list is another big RPG, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, developed by CD Projekt Red and published by Warner Bros. Games. The Witcher series, based on the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, put the Polish developer on the map in the early 2000s, with 2012’s Witcher 2 bringing the franchise to consoles. Netflix adapted the Witcher series to the small screen starting in 2019, with Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for the first three seasons and Liam Hemsworth taking over the role for the upcoming season four. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings features a thoroughly engrossing, mature storyline that defines a new standard for realistic, non-linear game narration. In addition to an epic story, the game features a complex combat system that uniquely combines deep tactical elements with dynamic action.Witcher 2 currently has a TA User rating of 4.15/5.00 and has been started by more than 88,500 tracked gamers, with just over 2,700 (3%) unlocking all 50 of the game’s achievements, which should take around 50-60 hours across two playthroughs. If you’ve already completed the base version, you can also participate by unlocking achievements in the European and Japanese stacks. The The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Walkthrough from OldMateClown is available to aid you on your journey.Halo: ReachThe Halo series on Paramount Plus hasn’t been quite as popular as some other recent video game television adaptations, but it didn’t feel right to do this theme without including Xbox’s flagship franchise. While the series draws inspiration from the canon established by the Halo games and other associated media, it takes place in a separate timeline and is not a direct adaptation of any of the Halo games. However, much of the series takes place on the human colony planet Reach, so it made sense to choose Halo: Reach to represent the franchise in this poll. Developed by Bungie and published in 2010 by Xbox Game Studios, Reach serves as a prequel to the original Halo: Combat Evolved. While the original version of the game is no longer available and online services have been discontinued, the Halo Reach: Campaign for Halo: The Master Chief Collection DLC will count for participation if this game wins the poll.Experience the heroic story of Noble Team, a group of Spartans, who through great sacrifice and courage, saved countless lives in the face of impossible odds. The planet Reach is humanity’s last line of defense between the encroaching Covenant and their ultimate goal, the destruction of Earth. If it falls, humanity will be pushed to the brink of destruction.Halo: Reach has a TA User rating of 4.33/5.00, while the Reach Campaign DLC from the Master Chief Collection is rated even higher, at 4.49/5.00. The two versions combined have been played by over 860,000 tracked gamers. Only about 1% (~3,900) tracked gamers have unlocked all 91 achievements from the MCC’s Reach DLC, which is estimated to take 20-25 hours to complete. Around 2% (just over 12,800 gamers) completed the 69 achievements from the original Reach, but 28 of those achievements are now discontinued due to server closures in 2022. The massive Halo: The Master Chief Collection Walkthrough by LifeExpectancy has a page dedicated to the Halo: Reach achievements to help you relive humanity’s struggle against the Covenant forces.CupheadFor our final nominee of the month, we return to Netflix for its recent animated series, The Cuphead Show!, which released as three separate seasons in 2022. The game Cuphead was something of a surprise sensation for developer and publisher Studio MDHR when it launched in 2017, bringing a unique aesthetic to this run-and-gun platformer.Cuphead is a classic run-and-gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e., traditional hand-drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single-player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!Cuphead has been played by over 233,800 tracked gamers in the TA community, with only 2% (~4,400 gamers) unlocking all 42 of the game’s achievements, which include 28 from the base game and 14 from the two DLC packs. The full completion is estimated to take 30-35 hours, and the Cuphead Walkthrough, written by RadicalSniper99, will help you plan your strategies for those tough boss fights. Cuphead currently sits at a strong TA community rating of 4.54/5.00.So, which of these TV-adapted games should the community play next month?
