We’ve spent the month of April hopping in and out of orbs, solving puzzles and exploring alien worlds in Cocoon, but now it’s time to come back to Earth and announce the May 2024 TA Playlist Game of the Month.

Our theme this month included four games with recent hit TV adaptations, including the Witcher series (represented by The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings), Halo (represented by Halo: Reach), and Cuphead (represented by, well, Cuphead). While those three games were in a back-and-forth contest for second place, however, the obvious inspiration for this poll theme was the recently-released Amazon Prime Fallout series, and as many expected, the Fallout game in the poll took an early and commanding lead. Your May 2024 TA Playlist game is… Fallout 3!

With both Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas having been featured in previous TA Playlists (June 2021 and July 2018, respectively), the Fallout franchise was represented in the poll by Fallout 3, the 2008 RPG from developer Bethesda Game Studios. Fallout 3 was a smash hit for Bethesda, which acquired the rights to the Fallout IP from Interplay Productions in 2007. While the current Fallout TV Series on Amazon Prime isn’t a direct adaptation of any single title in the Fallout series, it has received critical praise for being faithful to the tone and style of the game franchise overall, and the plot of a Vault Dweller in search of their missing father is shared with Fallout 3.

Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec®, America’s First Choice in Post-Nuclear Simulation™.
Fallout 3 has an impressive TA user rating of 4.5/5 and has been played by almost 448,000 tracked gamers. With the popularity of the new Amazon Prime show, all Fallout games have seen a resurgence in popularity, as shown by the fact that the player count for this game has increased by nearly 4,000 players just since the poll was released less than two weeks ago! Around 9% (just over 39,000 TA users) have gone on to unlock all 72 achievements, including 50 from the base game and the rest from 5 DLC packs, with a total estimated completion time of 75-100 hours. The Fallout 3 Walkthrough from BormahTiid is available to guide you through the Capital Wasteland and make sure you pick up the game’s 19 missable achievements. If you have the GFWL version, that will also count for participation, though that version has been removed from the Microsoft Store.

Here’s the full breakdown of the votes. Each of the other three games held second place for a time, but Fallout 3 took off like a nuclear missile, and quickly became the overwhelming winner.

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
