Magical Xbox games like Hogwarts Legacy to play in 2024 and beyond If you've finished up with the Summer Update and are looking for more Xbox games like Hogwarts Legacy, check out our list of wonderful magical games to try...Heidi Nicholas Published 20 Jun 2024 FollowtopicsXbox One X EnhancedXbox Series X|SArticleHeidi Nicholas That long-awaited Hogwarts Legacy summer update has now been out for two weeks. It added the Haunted Hogsmeade shop quest (which had previously been exclusive for PlayStation players) as well as a photo mode and a few other bits and bobs, such as a new broom and a very pretty onyx Hippogriff mount. It’s all content Hogwarts Legacy Xbox players have been keen to see (and had to wait a while for), but it also likely won’t take you too long to finish up with. Whether you’re enjoying your time with the game but have finished up with the new quest or are looking ahead to what else might be on the horizon, we have some great magical games listed here if you're looking for Xbox games like Hogwarts Legacy.Xbox games like Hogwarts LegacyHogwarts Legacy’s summer update was followed not much later by the release date announcement for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which comes to Xbox in September. As a Harry Potter game, it of course would be a good fit for if you’re searching for another game set in the same world, but it seems to be entirely focused on the competitive Quidditch experience more than the spells and potions side of things. If, therefore, you’re looking for something more magic-focused, these magical and fantastical Xbox games might be just what the trolley witch ordered. Lego Harry Potter CollectionHere are the Lego Harry Potter Collection achievementsRelease date: November 2, 2018Developer: Traveller's Tales, Double ElevenOn Game Pass: NoRight, let’s start things off with a safe bet: if you want to stick to the world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy, then with Lego Harry Potter Collection you get the two 360 games — Years 1-4 and Years 5-7 — bundled together, remastered, and available to play on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. If you’ve ever loved a Lego game before you’ll know that they don’t fuss about with taking themselves too seriously: think less doom and gloom, and more light-hearted, slapstick humor. If you’re after the nostalgia hit, these cover the events of all the books with all the spells, potions, dueling, and other wizardly activities you’d expect, as well as irresistible humor spilling out at every point. Couple all that with bonus levels, fun collectables, movie references, and secrets galore, and this one’s a real winner. Spells & SecretsHere are the Spells & Secrets achievementsRelease date: January 18, 2024Developer: Alchemist InteractiveOn Game Pass: NoRogue-lite adventure game Spells & Secrets takes us to another magical school with the Academy of Greifenstein. We play as a first-year student who sets out to save the castle and our classmates from the strange creatures suddenly roaming its halls. We can explore both the castle and its grounds, armed with spells, artifacts, and potions on our mission to save the school. If you enjoyed the exploration, spells, and puzzle-solving aspects of Hogwarts Legacy (or the “I have to save everyone” aspect of Harry Potter), this might be one for you.Little Witch in the Woods There are no Little Witch in the Woods achievements yet (it's still in Game Preview).Release date: May 17, 2022Developer: Sunny Side UpOn Game Pass: NoYou’re not heading to Hogwarts in Little Witch in the Woods, but you’re still living the life of an apprentice witch — in this case, you play as Ellie Blueriver, who’s going through witch training so she can graduate from Witch School. She needs to study all aspects of witchy life, from gathering ingredients and brewing them in the Brewing Chamber, to restoring the witch’s house she lives in, solving problems and puzzles, collecting potion recipes, fishing, catching bugs, and exploring. Little Witch in the Woods’ pixelated world is beautiful — sadly, it has now left Game Pass (and it’s not clear yet how long it might have left in Game Preview) but it’s definitely worth a look if you’re after a whimsical, witchy world.Potion Permit Here are the Potion Permit achievementsRelease date: September 22, 2022Developer: MassHive MediaOn Game Pass: NoYou can live out your Potions dreams to the max in Potion Permit, an open-ended sim RPG in which you’re sent to the town of Moonbury to cure the mayor’s daughter and to showcase the possibilities of alchemy. Moonbury’s inhabitants will be ill from time to time and require healing, and you’ll need to diagnose their symptoms, gather ingredients, and then get to work brewing potions in your cauldron. Once you’ve gained their trust, you can start building relationships with the people of Moonbury, or else upgrade the town and decorate your house. There are no time limits in Potion Permit and, to make things even better, you travel everywhere accompanied by your canine companion. If you ever thought you’d prefer to ignore all classes except Potions, you might want to give this a go. On that note…Potion Craft: Alchemist SimulatorHere are the Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator achievementsRelease date: December 13, 2022Developer: niceplay gamesOn Game Pass: NoIf you really can’t get enough of potions, Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator would be a good one to check out. You’re not a student or under pressure to save the world; you’re an alchemist running a shop and attempting to meet the demands of the townspeople. Like with Potion Permit, you’ll be working with ingredients and making potions, but the two games go about it in very different ways. Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator leans into the crafting side of things, and you have to interact with all the tools to grind, heat, stir, boil, and mix your potions, as well as choosing the base for each concoction. The game’s alchemy map throws another twist into the mix, as you try to select the effects you want for your potion. You’ll also need to trade with merchants and grow whatever plants you need, all while customers are banging on your door with requests for new potions. Potion Craft puts you in control of managing these requests and haggling for the best deal, as well as deciding how you’ll interact with the townspeople. The Elder Scrolls V: SkyrimHere are The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim achievementsRelease date: November 11, 2011Developer: Bethesda Game StudiosOn Game Pass: NoNow, let’s go in the other direction. If what you enjoyed about Hogwarts Legacy was the reliance on magic and open-world exploration, then it could be time to return to (or start for the first time, if you’re lucky enough not to have played it yet) one of the most player-driven fantasy experiences in recent times. Skyrim offers you total freedom to play as you please in an incredible world of dragons, cults, guilds, wars, rebellions, and magic. Lonely mountain villages and gorgeous cities make their appearances, but they’re spread out across the vast wilderness of Skyrim, which you can explore as whatever type of adventurer you choose. If it’s magic you’re after, Skyrim delivers, with a great magic system and the option to focus on magic in the skill tree and unleash your adventurer as a fearsome mage. It’s not quite the wand-waving dueling of Hogwarts Legacy, but there’s so much room for magical creativity with Illusion, Alteration, Destruction, Conjuration, and Restoration. Plus, there’s all that expanse of a beautiful open world packed with secrets and lore. You can’t retreat to the safety of Hogwarts, however, so just bear that in mind before you bite off more than you can chew magic-wise.Fable AnniversaryHere are the Fable Anniversary achievementsRelease date: February 7, 2014Developer: Lionhead StudiosOn Game Pass: YesFable has the whimsy, the Britishness, and the magic and creatures of the Wizarding World, but it has a distinctly fairytale overture from which the Harry Potter series escaped. In the world of Albion, most of your time will be taken up trying to work out how to shape your hero and whether they should be good or bad. It's pretty simplistic, but seeing your hero’s physically altered appearance after some bad deeds is a cool touch. It's a pleasure to sit back and soak up the world, too. There are so many funny one-liners that come out of nowhere, or quests requiring a chat with some sincerely odd folk. However, Fable Anniversary — even with its lovingly remastered elements — still looks and feels its age. The original came out in 2004, and this remaster is clinging on for dear life in this generation. Animations look fine mostly outside of some canned movement, but combat can become an absolute drag later in the game without enough variety to keep the sword sharp. The magic, long-range, and melee systems have been better implemented and feel much more at peace with one another than in the original, though. With a 20-25-hour run for all the Fable Anniversary achievements with our walkthrough (warning: there's one discontinued achievement), we feel this is a great place to get some Harry Potter vibes in a Tolkien-esque world. Plus, if you love it, there is Fable II and Fable III to tackle afterwards! Baldur's Gate 3Here are the Baldur's Gate 3 achievementsRelease date: December 7, 2023Developer: Larian StudiosOn Game Pass: NoAlright, this one strays a little far from the Hogwarts Legacy/Harry Potter territory of classes and being a mischievous kid in a magical version of the British school system. But if it’s magic you’re after, and Hogwarts Legacy gave you a hunger for a grand adventure, then there’s not really much out there that’s on as unbelievably grand a scale as Baldur’s Gate 3. Everything in this game is ramped up to ten; whether it’s the epic scale of the story, the complexity of its systems and relationships, or the fact that everything in this game is just excellent. Plus, of course, you can focus entirely on spells and magic to deal with everything if that’s how you want to play. There’s a wonderful variety with spells from eight schools of magic and an abundance of scrolls and magical items which let you do everything from turn a target into a sheep to allowing you to speak to animals. There’s a whole lot of magical shenanigans going on in Baldur’s Gate 3, and given just how long this game is, it could easily keep you happily occupied for hundreds of hours.Upcoming Xbox games for Hogwarts Legacy and Harry Potter fansIf you’re looking for more games with a touch of magic, here are a few other titles you might want to keep on your radar…Avowed Release window: Fall 2024 Developer: Obsidian EntertainmentComing to Game Pass: YesIt’s nice to be able to say this at last, but we’re actually not too far away from Avowed now, since it’s meant to launch later this year. We’ve had our eye on this one ever since Obsidian announced it back in 2020, and we saw a whole lot more during the Xbox Games Showcase. It’s a first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora. We’ll be there to investigate a strange plague called the Dream Scourge, and will be kept busy handling the island’s factions and our relationships with our companions. More to the purpose of this article, however, is that we can apparently do all this as a magic user. Avowed’s magic (at least in combat) looks more similar to Skyrim than anything else on this list, with our character able to cast spells with one hand and carry a weapon in the other. The fantasy and magical elements coupled with that medieval-like setting suggests that this will be a game we’ll get lost in for quite some time — especially since it is set to launch straight into Xbox Game Pass. If you’re looking for more info on this one, check out everything we know about Avowed!Everwild Release date: UnknownDeveloper: RareComing to Game Pass: YesAnd then we’re onto one which definitely doesn’t have even a hint of a release window. Even just writing about Everwild feels like wishful thinking, since we haven’t heard a peep from Rare about it for quite some time. But we know it will bring us “unique and unforgettable experiences... in a natural and magical world.” That Eternals trailer above gives a glimpse of the relationship between the game’s human characters and the natural world, and we’re told that an eternal “has the gift to sense and feel how magic flows through nature.” We’ve been intrigued by this one for a while, and while we don’t have a release date, we do know that it too will launch into Xbox Game Pass. One day. Hopefully.Magical DelicacyRelease date: July 16, 2024Developer: SkauleComing to Game Pass: Yes Back to the more witchy side of things, we have Magical Delicacy, which is actually out very soon — it launches into Xbox Game Pass next month. Magical Delicacy packs a lot into one game, combining platforming, cooking, growing plants, exploring, magic, Metroidvania elements, and a whole lot more. If it’s more the cozy daily life of a magic user you’re looking for, this one might be for you: our character Flora is in training to become a full witch and moves to a new town where she starts cooking meals and potions for the townsfolk. It seems there’s a more intricate magic story behind all the activities we’ll be up to, as there is apparently a conflict between two covens, which Flora is soon caught up in. Cozy? Check. Magic? Check. Sign us up!South of MidnightRelease window: 2025Developer: Compulsion GamesComing to Game Pass: YesThen we take a turn for a completely different style of magic with South of Midnight. This is a darker game with more of a focus on magical realism, but if you’re looking for magic and mysticism, South of Midnight looks as though it’ll have it in abundance. We’re not wielding wands or attending classes in this one: instead, our character Hazel has weaving magic, which lets her face harmful creatures and spirits and heal the tears in something known as a Grand Tapestry. So, if you’re also looking for a game which gives your character a grand purpose, this might be right up your street. Dungeons of HinterbergRelease date: July 18. 2024Developer: Microbird GamesComing to Game Pass: YesMagic is a big part of Dungeons of Hinterberg too, and if you like the look of this one, you don’t have long to wait — it’s out on Game Pass on July 18. In Dungeons of Hinterberg is an action-adventure RPG, where our character Luisa is trying to escape the hassle of her life as a law trainee by taking a break in an Alpine village. That remote Alpine setting sounds like a natural choice for a nice break, but Luisa is apparently not there to relax, as she’ll also be heading into the Dungeons of Hinterberg to become a Master Slayer. Magic is necessary both for finding creative ways to deal with the dungeons’ monsters and to solve puzzles, but Luisa will also be making friends with other travelers and the locals, so it seems there will be quieter moments too.FableRelease window: 2025Developer: Playground GamesComing to Game Pass: YesWe can’t mention Fable Anniversary without mentioning the new Fable as another magical game to keep an eye on. If it is that specific brand of British humor you’re after in your magical game, then we’re hoping to see that return in abundance in Fable. It’s also got that half light-hearted whimsy, half-save-the-world-if-you-can feeling that you’ll probably remember from the wizarding world. We have a round-up of everything we know about Fable to check out too, if you’re looking to know more! We'll be keeping an eye out for more specific release dates for a lot of those upcoming magical games, especially as several of them are highly-anticipated upcoming Xbox exclusives. In the meantime, these are some of the best magical Xbox games like Hogwarts Legacy to help you find something to scratch that Wizarding World itch — whether it's pure magic you're after, a grand save-the-world magical adventure, or the full castle-school experience. Thanks to TrueTrophies editor Kes Eylers-Stephenson for helping out with his knowledge of magical games too!Xbox Series X|SXbox One X EnhancedUpcoming ReleaseXbox OneXbox 360 Written by Heidi NicholasHeidi tends to lean towards indie games, RPGs, and open-world games on Xbox, and when not playing Disney Dreamlight Valley, happily installs every new wholesome game that appears on Xbox Game Pass, before diving back into favorites like The Witcher 3.
