Redfall's rumored May update could have future-proofed the FPS and its Xbox achievements A Redfall offline mode was reportedly coming this month in a new update before Microsoft announced it was shutting down Arkane Austin.Sean Carey Published 08 May 2024 FollowtopicsRedfallBethesda SoftworksOnline Co-opXbox Game PassRumourXbox Series X|SFirst Person ShooterSean Carey Redfall was reportedly down to get an update this month that would have protected the Xbox first-person shooter and potentially the Redfall achievements from a future server closure. It's claimed the update would have finally added a Redfall offline mode.An update due out this month would have made Redfall playable offlineOn Tuesday, Microsoft announced it was shutting down studio Arkane Austin, and all development on Redfall would stop. According to a new report from IGN, the announcement caught Arkane developers by surprise as they were still actively working on the first-person shooter, including its now-cancelled Hero Pass DLC. It's said that Arkane Austin was also working on an update for Redfall, due out this month, which would have added an offline mode to the shooter.Several months before launch, Bethesda confirmed that Redfall would require a "persistent online connection," even if you were playing the game solo. Naturally, this didn't go down well with players, and Arkane was quick to announce that it was working to make Redfall playable offline. As per IGN's report, Redfall's long-awaited offline mode was supposed to roll out in an update this month, but with Microsoft shuttering the studio and ceasing all development on the game, it looks like this offline mode will now never reach players. This raises concerns about Redfall and its achievements. While Arkane Austin did confirm that Redfall's servers will remain online for the foreseeable, Microsoft could, at any point, change its mind and turn them off, making the game completely unplayable. Naturally, this would also discontinue all of Redfall's achievements. Since its launch in May 2023, Redfall has received several major updates that greatly improved the game in terms of content and performance. If IGN's report is true, It's a real shame that Microsoft couldn't let Arkane finish this last update to preserve Redfall and keep it playable offline for future players.More Redfall stories: Redfall to get offline mode in final Xbox update Redfall DLC cancelled following closure of Arkane Austin Redfall update adds a new weapon, more improvements, and balance changes Redfall update finally brings 60 FPS Performance mode to Xbox Series X|S Bethesda to keep working on Redfall, as "Game Pass lives forever" RumourXbox Series X|SIndustry News Written by Sean CareyAvid Xbox and achievement fan, Sean has committed to playing the best RPGs, racing games, and first-person shooters Xbox Game Pass and his precious free time will allow.
